SLATERVILLE - Dolores Maw Slater, 82, passed away on July 8, 2017, after struggling for many years from complications due to a series of strokes. She was born on March 5, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, the third child of Abram E. and Monna Brown Maw. Dolores was raised on the family farm in Plain City, while attending kindergarten through tenth grade at Plain City Elementary. She completed her high school years at Weber High where she enjoyed being involved in plays, orchestra and being a cheerleader.
On September 26, 1952, she married her eternal companion, Elwin James Slater, of Slaterville in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a hard-working daughter who spent many years helping out on the family farm. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions, including: Primary worker, President in the MIA, Relief Society Presidency, Chorister and as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple with her dear husband.
Dolores dedicated many hours taking care of her children, husband and home. She worked part-time as a cook at Wahlquist Junior High and seasonally at the IRS for many years. Her children were very important to her and she supported them in all of their activities.
Our mom and dad lived a life full of love and adventure spent with family and their many friends. They loved to travel, rather it be a simple camping trip or a great adventure to Peru. Mom continued her zest for life after dad's passing with her new-found friends from the Ogden Temple and her organ playing group at the Piano Gallery. She enjoyed time spent with Family Home Evening relatives, her card playing group and water aerobics at Myrna's pool. She will always remember after dad passed that Keith was always there by her side, from dragging hoses to water their yards to just being a great friend. She was a great example of courage, carrying on with life and enduring many hardships over the past 20 years. Mom was enthusiastic and energetic. She was always ready to "seize the moment." She loved to dress fashionably and she looked nice even through her last days. She was truly a hard- working farm girl and was an example to her children. Her suffering is over and she is reunited with her sweetheart!
Elwin and Dolores were blessed with five children: Doloy Skeen (Mike), Shawnee Adams (Larry), Scott E. Slater (Mary Ann and Kevin Hill), Winn L. Slater (Janis and Kelly Wakley) and Mindy Nebeker (Barry). Dolores had 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two surviving sisters: Aline Lord and Velda Webb (Don).
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Elwin; her two sons, Scott and Winn; and two great-grandchildren, Hudson Skeen and Bryant Westergard. Also preceding her were her parents, Abe and Monna Maw; her sister, Marilyn; and her brother, Lionel.
We are especially grateful to the staff at Seasons and Quail Meadow Assisted Living and Comfort Worx Hospice Care, especially, Alyx and Kaylie. We appreciate your efforts in keeping mom comfortable in her last days.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Slaterville LDS Chapel, 250 N. 1500 West, Ogden.
