Born November 25, 1922, to Herbert Brown Maw and Florence Beuhler in Salt Lake City, he was the oldest of 4 children. At the time of his passing, his loving family surrounded him, including his sweetheart of 65 years, Joan Gerber Maw, whom he married in the Salt Lake Temple, and their children, Katherine (Craig, deceased), Richard (Nena), Karen (Eric), and Sharon (Scott). He is survived by his sisters LaRue (Ben) and Jeanne, 19 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. His daughter Judith, younger brother Ralph, son-in-law Craig, and granddaughter Allison preceded him in death.
Raised in Salt Lake City, he graduated as valedictorian from East High School and began his college studies at the University of Utah. He received a commission to the United States Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1946. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and in the Naval Reserve for 22 years, rising to the rank of Captain. He loved his country and the American flag. He later received an MBA from the University of Utah.
Warren was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, including a mission to the Philippines with his wife. In later years, Warren spent hours each day on the computer indexing names for family history.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the East Mill Creek 7th Ward, 3408 Celeste Way, Salt Lake City. Visitation will occur on Friday, September 1, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland Drive, and for 90 minutes prior to the funeral services at the Church. In lieu of flowers, Warren requested donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
