William Brian Maw
December 21, 1949 - July 21 2011
Brother to Suzanne McVicker and Jerri Maw
Uncle to Graham McVicker and Jessica McVicker
Was predeceased by father ~ Percy Jerry Maw and mother ~ Susan Maw.
Brian Maw was born in Toronto.
Our grandfather was from Quebec and sang for an opera house in New York city. Brian inherited an incredible singing voice and in his early teens was the main singer in choirs both at school choirs and the church choir. His voice was one of an angel singing.
He went to Riverdale High School and also took photography and auto mechanics at adult education classes in Vancouver
His hobbies were photography , reading and bowling when he was younger. He had a class 5 driving license.
Brian and I were raised by our Dad. My dad was very strict and very " English" He had come over from England as an orphan at twelve to work on the orchards in southern Ontario. Brian took after his dad in the truest sense as they both were the most honest people I know. A lie was unthinkable. Both were incredibly hardworking.
Every Saturday my dad would ask Brian and I what we wanted special for the week from the supermarket. Brian's answer was always sirloin steak . That really hasn't changed as this is still his favourite meal. He loved dining at the Keg.
Brian Maw was a very special person. He was thoughtful and kind.
He loved to read, take long walks, loved his coffee shops and enjoyed watching movies.
He was the distribution officer at Symcor and had worked there for 17 years. He had never missed a day of work . The words that best described his work ethic were made by his manager, Lars Kain :
" Brian continues to be the top performer... Voluntarily remains past scheduled time...he is widely trusted and is a direct truthful person."
Brian was a very quiet private, modest person who had an inner strength. He had overcome tremendous obstacles in his youth. He never complained nor expected special treatment. His greatest strength was his willingness to help others, wanting nothing in return. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his sister, friends and co-workers.
A true gentleman and friend for always.
He was always there for me, especially in times of sorrow , he was such a great comfort to me.
He was planning, with me to retire, to Nelson, so we both could see each other much more often.
I never heard a critical or harsh word from Brian. He was willing to help anyone with a quiet grace that will be sorely missed by his family and co-workers.
