    • Hello Johan
      Some information on the complex life of Archer Augustus Maw, which might fill some holes.
      Archer A Maw married Ellen Valler in 1856 as you know and had 3 girls by her, Emily, Alice & Constance Maw
      By the 1871 census they had split and she was head of the family and running a lodging house
      At some point between 1871 and 1875 Archer links up with Ada Eliza Johnson a British subject born in New York (she lived in the UK with her maternal grandparents from the age of 1, her father was a sailor).
      In 1876 Archer and Ada (although not married) had a daughter Grace Topsy Maw (my great grandmother) who was registered in both their names, but they falsified the document by Ada calling herself Maw - formerly Johnson.
      In 1878 they had a son Archer Augustus Maw Johnson who this time is registered as illigitimate
      In 1880 they had another son called Beecham Maw Johnson who also shows as illigitimate
      in 1891 Ellen Maw (ex Valler) dies in Q2. In 1891 Q3 Archer marries Ada (finally) now that he is a widow
      in 1900 Archer Augustus Maw junior dies of TB (having now removed the Johnson element of his name)
      in 1909 Beecham Maw (also now having removed the Johnson element) marries Margaret Wheeler
      In 1910 Beecham A A Maw is born
      In 1913 Albert A Maw is born
      I've attached some certificate copies and photo's that may be of interest. some have been sent via a separate email to keep the size down
